Constitution Protection

National Security Act Section 5b) places an obligation on the Constitution Protection Office to detect and avert any covert attempt to change or disrupt the constitutional order of Hungary by unlawful means.
The constitutional order may come under attack from several directions, and the covert attempts to change or disrupt the same may emerge in various forms and intensity. The constitutional order can be endangered both by extreme religious ambitions and by groups organised on ideological grounds that reject the democratic rule of law or are prepared to use violence. The maintenance of constitutional guarantees is a key interest for the whole society, thus the legislator authorised the Constitution Protection Office to use secret service means and methods for its information gathering activities related to citizens subject to a set of statutory criteria.
